Become part of the UCAA Board!

Dearest alumni,

We have a plea to make. Since June of last year we have been two board members short and it is starting to become a struggle to do everything we would like to do. We are looking for an Events Co-ordinator and an External Representative/PR Co-ordinator. Both these positions provide amazing networking opportunities. For further explanation of what each position entails please click here.

As the UCAA board we are responsible for representing alumni affairs on campus and we try and ensure the maintenance of an active alumni network through reunions, events, the annual magazine Post, etc. Do you have any bright ideas on how we could be doing more? Join the board! Or let us know at info@ucaa.nl.

The UCAA board has until now been partially reimbursed for the hours they spend on alumni contact. Furthermore, involvement in the board allows one to participate in UCU’s international student recruitment with the possibility to visit educational fairs abroad. One’s time spent working at these fairs is also reimbursed.

Our meetings are currently held in Utrecht but if we had applications from other cities in the Netherlands we would be open to rotating the meeting schedule between locations. Applications from alumni living abroad are also welcome although we would have to look at the way this could be worked out in practice.

If you are interested in either position please send a short motivational statement and a basic c.v. (name, date of birth, graduation year from UCU, short description of any work experience) to info@ucaa.nl.

We hope to hear back from you soon.

Kind regards,

Sarah Carmichael, Treasurer

On behalf of the UCAA Board

Post!

Hopefully, the most of you have noticed quite a change a few months ago: no longer the familiar Quaquaversal (lovingly called QQV) on your doormat, but a colorful magazine in a smaller format, named Post. Your brand new UCU alumni magazine is going a different direction. Of course we still want to inform you about your fellow UC’ers, but we also want to give you a read that never bores, that inspires, that makes you want to join the discussion. With the new format, we aim to do just that. Alumni and UCU-affiliates write about topics in their field or concerns they have come across in their lives. Also, Post is the place for both intellectual and artistic content, because we want to depict our alumni community in a broader manner than ‘just’ words. Want to contribute? You  know where to email us (pssst: info@ucaa.nl). And check out Post’s online sibling: www.TalkingPost.org, where the magazine’s articles as well as exclusive content are posted and where we hope you will engage in a lively discussion on the various topics. We are currently working hard on a December edition (that’s right, Post will come out twice a year!!), so make sure your current postal address is up to date on UCUniverse :)

Upcoming: Alumni Reunion

On the 30th of September it’s time again for another UCU alumni reunion!
Whether you have graduated only recently or (what feels like) a long time ago, this’ll be a great opportunity to reminisce and catch up with old friends and the people from your year. Held in the trusty UCSA College Bar, the theme for this year’s reunion will be ‘Back to the Bubble’. Doors open at 21h, where you’ll be greeted with a free drink (with bubbles, of course) and a performance, after which you’ll be able to party like old times, enjoy the cheap beer, see how much or little has changed on campus, and find out what everyone you know has been up to.

Note: The car gate will remain open all night.

The Scholarship Dinner will be postponed to a TBA date in the Spring. Unfortunately, we’ve received too few reservations before the deadline for the event to be viable. Donations towards the Scholarship Fund are welcome at any time; if you wish to make a one-off donation, please transfer your chosen amount to the UCAA bank account. Keep an eye out on the website, our social media en your email inbox for the new date.

UCAA is looking for a new PR/External Representative and Events Coordinator! You?

The UCAA is looking for a new PR and External Representative and Events Coordinator! Are you an enthusiastic alumnus/alumna who wishes to remain involved with the UCU alumni community? Read on!
The PR/External Representative position is for those who are interested in experiencing working with the UCAA’s contacts from a new perspective through team work, promotion and fundraising for/with UCU and UCAA. We are looking for a teamplayer, who is also able to work independently on tasks and projects. The hours you invest are partially paid but the network you build is priceless.
The Events Coordinator is responsible for either organizing or coordinating the team that organizes the different UCAA events. This, for instance, includes the yearly pub quiz, alumni reunion, occasional drinks, and any other events you’d like the UCAA to organize. The events coordinator also negotiates the UCAA’s involvement in UCU and UU events like introduction weeks or the UC Festival.
As the Board is seated in Utrecht, it’s preferable if candidates live in the area or have the ability to regularly travel there. Board members are expected to stay on for at least one year. Time investment is approximately 8 hours per week (partly paid), excluding a monthly Board meeting and attending UCU/UCAA/UU events every now and then.
Interested? Send your CV and a short motivation letter to info@ucaa.nl (also for any questions about the position).
