Should you be interested in returning to campus to share your knowledge of career paths after UCU please let us know. We are particularly look for entrepreneurial alumni to take part in a round-table discussion.

Pub Quiz

Do you feel it’s time to taste the bubble again? The yearly UCAA Pub Quiz is coming up! On Friday February 10th, from 20h until 23h, you are invited to the UCSA Bar to come keep the tradition alive and see whether you can do better than current UC students. In between the questions there will be short performances both by alumni and students. Sign up your team (up to 5 members) via info@ucaa.nl. See you in the Bar!

New Board Members

We’re very excited to announce two new additions to the UCAA board. To read a short introduction by Roeland & Leonie head on over to the website.

Post

As you’ll hopefully have seen, the new December edition of Post was sent out a few weeks ago. We’re very happy with how the magazine turned out, so we hope you’ve enjoyed reading it as well. If however, for whatever reason, you have yet to receive your copy, please let us know by sending an e-mail to info@ucaa.nl and we’ll make sure you’re still sent one. In the mean time, the articles are also available for you to read and comment upon online at talkingpost.org.

Sincerely yours,
The UCAA Board

UCAA Newsletter May 2011

Dear alumni,

Upcoming events
On the 20th of May your regional representative in London has organized a great dinner and drinks, so if you’re in the area and want to meet up with fellow UC alumni, go to the Facebook event page for more info and how to sign up.

We are also excited to announce that the first annual alumni reunion and scholarship dinner will take place on the 30th of September. More details about the event here and as it approaches, but be sure to mark it down in your agendas already, because it’s going to be big and you don’t want to miss it.

Board vacancy PR/External Representative
After two and a half years of hard work and dedication to the UCAA, Somaye Dehban (’07) will be leaving our board. We will miss her tireless efforts very much, but this does mean that there is a new board vacancy for you to apply to! The PR/External Representative position provides you with first-hand experience in areas like promotion, fundraising, and team work, is partly paid and serves as a great resume builder. For more information on the position and how to apply, check out our vacancies page here. Deadline for application is May 30th, 2011.

UCAA blog
For updates on past events like last month’s excellent Career Day and UCU Festival, be sure to follow the UCAA blog (you can even subscribe for notifications every time a new item is posted). New reports, photos and videos are posted on a fairly regular basis, so be sure to check back often. And if you have anything to contribute for any of the items or events, be sure to leave a comment or send us an e-mail.

Willem Albert Wagenaar passed away
As a final point, some sad news. Last month word reached us that UCU’s former dean Willem Albert Wagenaar has passed away at the age of 69. Professor Wagenaar served as dean of UCU in 2003 and 2004, after which he continued to teach the very popular ‘Psychology in the Courtroom’ course on our campus. The UCAA is very much saddened to hear of his passing and sends its heartfelt condolences to his friends, family and all the many students, teachers and alumni on whose lives he has had an impact.

Sincerely yours,

The UCAA Board

UCAA Newsletter February 2011

Dear alumni,

Career Day
Career Day 2011 will take place on the 12th of April with the theme “The Network Society”. Among the confirmed participants this year are Unilever, Sotheby’s and Philips, as well as journalist Francisco van Jole. This list is set to grow, so keep checking the career conference website for other companies and speakers. If you would like to attend, please sing up by filling out the contact form on the website. Additionally, we’re looking for a number of alumni to, in the bar afterwards, give 10 to 20 minute presentations about themselves and their career paths. If you would like to come and tell current UC students (as well as a couple of alumni) about what you’ve done with your UC degree we would love to hear from you. Please e-mail info@ucaa.nl for more information.

UU Day & Utrecht drink
On the 26th of March Utrecht University is holding its annual UU day, which is open to all its alumni (which includes those from UCU). Coinciding with the university’s 375 year lustrum, this year’s theme will be Dualism between Body and Soul and will feature a full day of lectures and workshops by experts in their field, including one by the UCAA’s very own Somaye Dehban. More information about the event can be found here (information only available in Dutch, unfortunately). The day will be followed by a Utrecht drink at Café De Winter (Willem de Zwijgerstraat 31), starting at 20h. First round of drinks will be on the UCAA!

UCU Festival
The annual UCU festival, showcasing UC life and its students’ activities, is happening on the 9th of April. Joining in the celebration of the UU’s milestone 375th year, the festival’s theme will be History and Heritage. Alumni are actively encouraged to attend the lectures, performances and other events planned during the day, so be sure to drop by campus and join the festivities.

UU Relay Marathon
On Easter Monday (April 25th) the UU is organizing a big charity relay race marathon for students, employees and alumni. In sponsored teams of two, four or six, every runner completes a part of the course. More information can be found here (again, only available in Dutch). If you’re interested in running in a team of UC alumni get in touch with the UCAA at info@ucaa.nl to arrange it.

Requesting documents from College Hall
UCU has instituted a new and easier way for alumni to request documents (like transcripts) from College Hall. Instead of having to visit the reception desk, you can now also request them online. Add https://fd8.formdesk.com/universiteitutrecht/UCU_document_request to your bookmarks and follow the steps from there to have any documents you might need sent directly to you.

Other ways the UCAA wants to keep you informed
In addition to our newsletters, the UCAA is also making an effort to keep you informed of our goings on through social media and our own website. Join our pages on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn and if you haven’t been to our website in a while, take some time to explore ucaa.nl, like our new ‘Opportunities’ page.

Lastly, a sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out the last newsletter’s QQV survey. Your comments are much appreciated, with some already being incorporated into this year’s issue.

Sincerely yours,

The UCAA Board

UCAA Newsletter November 2010

Dear alumni,

Pub Quiz
It’s that time of year again to get ready for the Pub Quiz! This year’s pub quiz will take place on Saturday the 11th of December starting at 20.30h in our beloved UC campus bar and, like in previous years, the amazing team of Hans, Casper and Karel will provide the questions and take on hosting duties. So come join us for an evening of fun trivia, seeing old friends and partying afterwards. To sign up send an e-mail with your team name and members (max. 6 persons) to info@ucaa.nl. The first keg of beer will be on the UCAA!

Board vacancy
Unfortunately, the pub quiz will also mark one of the last events organized by our lovely events coordinator Catherine Endtz, as she’ll soon be resigning her position. That does however mean that if you’re an enthusiastic alumnus or alumna and interested in joining  our board, we welcome you to apply for the position. Your time investment would consist of a few hours a week (partly paid) and attending monthly meetings. To find out more about the position and how to apply go to: www.ucaa.nl/vacancies. The deadline for application is Friday, December 3rd.

Input QuaQuaVersal
As every year, we’re also looking for alumni with an interesting occupation, hobby or story to tell that would like to share their experiences with their fellow alumni in the QuaQuaVersal, our annual alumni magazine. If you are such a person and would be interested in getting your writing, photographs, poems, artwork, etc. published, get in contact with us at qqv@ucaa.nl.

UCU Open Day
On the 26th and 27th of November UCU will be having its Open Days for prospective new students. There will also be a stand dedicated to ‘life after UC’ that could still use some enthusiastic alumni volunteers to help man the stand for a part of either of those days. If interested, please send an e-mail to info@ucaa.nl.

Sincerely yours,

The UCAA Board
